In the journey of managing teams, whether in corporate roles or my own business, I’ve learned a crucial lesson from one of my mentors: clinical problems cannot be solved with management processes.
Reflecting on my past experiences, I always strived to support team members, helping them align with the team’s and business’s goals. I employed numerous management processes, aiming to mold individuals for the betterment of everyone involved.
However, embracing the wisdom of my mentor’s advice has simplified my approach. Previously, I attempted to address clinical issues with management techniques. Now, I realise that sometimes it’s better to part ways for the benefit of the individual, the team, and the business rather than dragging out a situation that negatively affects everyone.
By doing so, you’re left with A-players who prioritise team and business goals over personal ones. They trust each other, engage in healthy conflicts around ideas rather than personal matters, hold each other accountable, and ultimately deliver exceptional results.
